WEST WYOMING — An annual Breakfast with Santa event at the West Wyoming Hose Company No. 1 brought nearly 200 people out for a chance to meet with the jolly elf himself while enjoying a delicious breakfast.

Hazel Sciandra, 2, of Harding, had an important question for Santa when she had a chance to sit on his lap.

“Do elves make toys for dogs, too?” Hazel asked, hoping her German Shepherd Reba might make the good list.

Hazel was relieved to hear that Santa knew all about Reba and plans to deliver a special toy for her.

She enjoyed a stuffed reindeer she had received from Santa, clinging to it as she ate breakfast.

Hazle’s parents Jon Zeiler and Kate Sciandra, originally from West Wyoming, said they were committed to continuing to support the borough’s fire company.

Jayne Hromek, vice president of the fire company, said, although there was a nominal charge to attend the breakfast, the event was simply an opportunity to give back to the community.

The event, in its sixth year, also serves to collect toys for the Toys for Tots effort.

“Kids enjoy time with Santa and they can take a photo with him,” she said.

About a dozen Boy Scouts from West Wyoming, clad in their uniforms, helped serve the food, which included eggs, hash browns, toast, ham and more.

Boy Scout leader Alberto Hererra said the Scouts would spend the day helping others kick off the holiday season.

“Later, we’re going to be caroling at a local nursing home,” he said.

Boy Scout Dominic Mazza, 12, was having a good time serving up hash browns to youngsters and their families.

Herera said the Scouts have been assisting at the event since it started.

Tricia Besermin, of Forty Fort, attended with her family, filling an entire table, centering around her grandson, Logan, 3, who seemed to enjoy time with his family.

Besermin’s boyfriend Mike Henry sported a Santa hat, but carefully pointed out the ears attached to the side of the fuzzy red hat.

“I’m only a helper,” he emphasized, laughing.

Debbie Granteed, the fire department’s president, said, “It’s a great opportunity for the department to reach out to the community and help them kick off the holiday season.”
