Open Mic Night

The Pittston Memorial Library is hosting an Open Mic Night Friday, Feb. 28. Musicians, singers, poets and standup welcome to sign up for this 18+ event. Deadline for signup is Feb. 4. Anyone interested in performing is asked to call the library at 570-654-9565.

Leap Music Together

What are you doing with your extra day this year? Why not stop by the library with your little one and join Miss Janine from MUSICare Project NEPA featuring Music Together for a FREE one-time intro session to see what their program is all about. This program is for children ages birth through 5 years old and takes place Saturday, Feb. 29 from 10:15 to 11 a.m.

Since it’s a leap year, there will be lots of songs and activities having to do with hopping or jumping. Miss Kristin will also have indoor hopscotch set up in the Children’s Wing.

Make grocery bag mats

Learn how to make grocery bag mats for our homeless community. Come to a class Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Chair Yoga with Lisa

Join us for a 3-week chair yoga series. Cost is $30 and classes are as follows: Jan. 27 1 p.m., Feb. 3 at 1 p.m., Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. Message the page or call the library to register. Registration is confirmed upon payment which must be made at the library.

Movie Night for Adults

Children’s programming

Winter READO

All kids, ages birth through fifth grade, are invited to participate in our Winter READ-O program. Pick up a sheet beginning Saturday, Feb. 1 and have fun completing the requirements for a free book. The program will continue through the end of March. The last date to turn in the completed sheet with be Monday, March 30. Call 570-654-9565 ext. 26 for more information. There’s no need to register; just stop by for a copy of the READ-O sheet (or print one out).

Tales on Tuesday

Tales on Tuesday with Miss Kristin features age-appropriate stories, songs, activities, and free play for infants, toddlers and pre-school age children. Our programs are as follows: Books and Babies for ages newborn to 18 months at 9:30 a.m., Terrific Twos for ages 18 months to 3 years at 10:30 a.m. and Preschool Pals for ages 3 to 5 years at 11:30 a.m. Registration is required. Sign-ups are available in our children’s wing or by calling our children’s department at 570-654-9565 ext. 26. Session ends Feb. 11.

Grown-Up and Me

Kids 18 months to age 5 are welcome to bring their grownup to the library for a fun story, craft and free play on Monday evenings. Our program is split into two sessions. Kids 18 months to 3 meet at 5:30 p.m. and kids 3 to 5 meet at 6 p.m. Registration is required by calling 570-654-9565 ext. 26. Session ends Feb. 10.

Furry Tails Reading Partners

Join us for our Furry Tails reading program. Children can choose their favorite books to read to gentle, lovable, and furry therapy dogs. The second Saturday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Building Club

Anyone ages 3-11 are welcome to “free build” whatever they’d like. We provide the Legos or Lincoln Logs; you provide the creativity. We will give you a name tag when you are finished so you can display your creation on our book shelves. Building club meets every Monday from 4 to 5 p.m.

Tweens & Teens

Pageturners Tween Bookclub

Calling all fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. If you like to read for fun, talk about books, enjoy a snack, and love doing crafts/activities, then this is the club for you! Miss Noelle and Miss Kristin are going to discuss the 2018 Newberry Medal Winner, “Hello, Universe” by Erin Entrada Kelly. We will provide a snack and make a craft or do an activity related to the book. Call us at 570-654-9565 ext. 26 to register for this free club. Copies of the book are available at the library or you’re welcome to bring your own copy.

TRL Teen Bookclub

Join our book club every second Monday of the month as we discuss our latest read. This coming month we’ll discuss “The Death of Mrs. Westaway” on Monday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m.. Books are limited but available at the front desk.

Crochet Club

Beginner? Advanced? Everyone’s welcome at our Crochet Club. We meet Tuesdays from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Bring your own supplies, including a crochet hook sized I, J, or K and yarn.

Craft Night: Leather accessories

Thursday, Jan. 30, 7 p.m.

Try your hand at a stamped leather accessory using simple tools and techniques. You will leave the class with a handmade bookmark or necklace, and the skills to try this trendy craft at home. This class costs $5, which includes all materials.
