Pysanky is back! The Pittston Library is offering a Ukrainian Pysanky Class taught by Tammy Budnovitch on Saturday, March 14 with two classes being held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Each two-hour beginner class for adults teaches you the basic steps of making your own pysanky. The cost for the class is $25 per person which includes supplies needed. A portion of the proceeds will benefit our library.

Space is limited and reservations will be accepted with full payment on a first come first, serve basis. Cash only, please.Tammy will also have pysanky, as well as additional supplies, for sale at this event. Questions? Call the library at 570-654-9565.

Group night with the Pens

Join Luzerne County Library System Group Night in a fun night out against the Hershey Bears on Saturday, March 21 at 7:05 p.m. $4 from each ticket sold is donated back to the Luzerne County Library System. It will be the Penguins STAR WARS Night! Price is: $24.25 per person and includes ticket, meal voucher for a hot Dog, chips and drink. Stop by the library to pick up a form. return orders no later than March 10.

Learn how to make grocery bag mats for our homeless community. Come to a class Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Winter READO

All kids, ages birth through fifth grade, are invited to participate in our Winter READ-O program. Pick up a sheet and have fun completing the requirements for a free book. The program will continue through the end of March. The last date to turn in the completed sheet with be Monday, March 30. Call 570-654-9565 ext. 26 for more information. There’s no need to register; just stop by for a copy of the READ-O sheet (or print one out).

Furry Tails Reading Partners

Join us for our Furry Tails reading program. Children can choose their favorite books to read to gentle, lovable, and furry therapy dogs. The second Saturday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Building Club

Anyone ages 3-11 are welcome to “free build” whatever they’d like. We provide the Legos or Lincoln Logs; you provide the creativity. We will give you a name tag when you are finished so you can display your creation on our book shelves. Building club meets every Monday from 4 to 5 p.m.

Tweens & Teens

Pageturners Tween Bookclub

Calling all fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. If you like to read for fun, talk about books, enjoy a snack, and love doing crafts/activities, then this is the club for you! Miss Noelle and Miss Kristin are going to discuss the 2018 Newberry Medal Winner, “Hello, Universe” by Erin Entrada Kelly. We will provide a snack and make a craft or do an activity related to the book. Call us at 570-654-9565 ext. 26 to register for this free club. Copies of the book are available at the library or you’re welcome to bring your own copy.

Beginner? Advanced? Everyone’s welcome at our Crochet Club. We meet Tuesdays from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Bring your own supplies, including a crochet hook sized I, J, or K and yarn.

Mother Goose on the Loose: Fridays, 10:30 a.m., Designed for babies from birth to 24 months, this program uses books, rhymes, songs instruments, and puppets to develop early literacy skills in a fun environment. Regster by the Wednesday of each week, call the library!

Kindergarten Readiness: Fridays, 1 p.m., This weekly class is designed to introduce children to the library and develop skills needed for school like socialization, letter knowledge, and fine motor skills. Please call the library to register by Wednesday each week.

Teen

Black Glue Paintings: Wednesday, March 18, 6:30 p.m., Transform a painting into a cool work of art. Create an original piece or choose from a premade template. Call the library to register.

WPHS presents West Pittston History Day: Saturday, March 21, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., The Historical Society would like to scan your historical photos or photograph items to add them to our digital collection of images. There will be displays set up for viewing by the public as well.

Adult Craft: Felt Sunshine Banner, Thursday, March 26, 6 p.m., $5, Choose from one of 3 styles, cut some felt, hand sew with a couple easy to learn stitches and go home with confidence in a new skill and a great wall hanging. Call the library to register.

The spring session of the shared cost Laflin Book Discussion Club will meet on Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in the Laflin Library. There will be a brief meeting and the first book “My Name is Lucy Barton” will be distributed. New members are always welcome.
