PITTSTON – VIA Public Media invites the public to a free International Women’s Day live pledge event with the 2020 Ms. America Camille Schrier at the VIA Public Media Studios on Sunday.

A biochemist and STEM advocate, Schrier graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Biochemistry and Systems Biology. She is using her platform to promote her initiative: Mind Your Meds: Drug Safety and Abuse Prevention from Pediatrics to Geriatrics.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. with programs beginning at 8 p.m. Attendees will enjoy light refreshments, watch documentaries, answer phone calls of support, celebrate and honor women rising together and network with others who share in the same mission.

At 8 p.m., we’ll celebrate the centennial of women’s right to vote through popular music with the documentary “Rise Up: Songs of the Women’s Movement,” including performances by Aretha Franklin, Lesley Gore, Helen Reddy, Loretta Lynn, Gloria Gaynor, Dolly Parton, Joan Jett, Cyndi Lauper, Melissa Etheridge, Tina Turner and more.

At 9:30 p.m., “Aretha Franklin Remembered” will celebrate the legendary Queen of Soul and the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with her greatest hits from television appearances spanning the 1960s through 2000s, many of which have never been seen in the U.S.
