Wyoming Area’s Taylor Gashi was named Girls Field Athlete of the Meet on May 31 in the LTC vs. WVC Senior All-Star Track Meet, which was conducted for the first time at Mid Valley.
Previously, Abington Heights had been hosting an annual Lackawanna Track Conference All-Star Meet. The Wyoming Valley Conference joined in this year.
The LTC was credited with a 57-56 victory in the girls’ meet and won easily on the boys’ side.
Gashi helped make things close by winning three field events — the shot put with 32-4¼, the discus with 90-3 and the triple jump with 34-11½.
Lucia Campenni was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles.
Pittston Area’s Paige Bittman and Elinor Schardien each contributed a first- and third-place finish for the WVC girls.
Bittman won the high jump with 4-10 and was third in the long jump with 14-6¼. Schardien won the pole vault by clearing 10-0 and was third in the 100 with a time of 14.02.
The top three in each event scored points.
Leah Drozginski was third in the 300 hurdles.
Wyoming Area throwers Josh Mruk and Ben Gravine each won an event for the WVC boys.
Mruk had a shot put of 50-9 and a discus throw of 169-2.
Pittston Area’s Caden Boettger won the 800 with a time of 2:10.03.
Gael Idolwa was third in the triple jump with 34-7½.
