Marissa Chiampi, West Pittston, and Brooke Keller, Exeter, won gold medals for the Wyoming Valley Flames in U12 softball during the Keystone Games in York.

Chiampi and Keller helped the Flames win gold by beating Pittsburgh Freedom, 5-4, in extra innings. The Flames finished the season undefeated.

Members of the Pittston Area football team got ready for the season by joining the “1,000-Pound Weight Club.”

Members of the team who achieved the goal prior to the season were Ron Dietrick, Mike Owens, Nick Zaleski, Paul Tabone, Chuck Montagna, Guy DePascale, Sal Morganti, Pat Engleman, Ron Aukenbrand, Chris Lenza and Ricky Joseph. John Garibaldi was the strength and conditioning coach was John Garibaldi.

August 1985

Duryea Little League defeated Wyoming-West Wyoming, 10-2, to capture the Pittston Mall Merchants 9-10 year-old tournament.

In the title game, Pat Ratchford didn’t allow a hit through three innings and Mike McHale allowed just two hits the rest of the way. Paul Biscontini led the offense with three hits and two runs, while Larry Shotwell had two hits and two runs.

August 1975

St. Rocco’s Teeners Team captured the championship of the Tri-Boro league with an unbeaten mark of 10-0. The team also qualified for the playoffs of the Shautz-Gallagher Memorial Tournament.

Coaches of the team were Streaky Dardes and Gus Turonis.
