Sarah Holweg hit a personal college scoring high and was West Chester University’s leading scorer Dec. 1 in a 67-52 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s basketball loss to California University of Pennsylvania.

The freshman guard from Wyoming Area came off the bench to score 11 points in 26 minutes during the game.

Holweg, who opened the season as a starter, used the effort to help earn a return to the starting lineup for the team’s most recent two games.

West Chester was 0-5 in the conference and 4-8 overall going into Saturday’s return to action in a PSAC game at Kutztown University.

Holweg, Wyoming Area’s all-time leading girls scorer, has played in all 12 games. She has made nine starts.

During the California game, Holweg made three 3-pointers for the first time in college. She went 3-for-7 from long distance in the game and also took her first two foul shots of the season, making both.

The 26 minutes was the second-most of her career, behind only her college debut.

Holweg is third on the team in 3-pointers made with nine. She is shooting 27.5 percent from the floor and 25.7 percent on 3-pointers while averaging 3.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists.

At Wyoming Area, Holweg was a third-team, all-state selection by Pennsylvania sports writers as a senior.
