Rebecca Prociak is putting together an impressive conclusion to her college basketball career while her younger brother, Nick, is getting his started.
The Prociaks from Jenkins Township both graduated from Holy Redeemer where they were among the leaders of championship high school teams.
Rebecca Prociak, a 5-foot-11 senior forward, has won multiple weekly awards at King’s College where she is a returning Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom all-star.
Nick Prociak is also playing basketball in the MAC Freedom. He is a 6-6 freshman forward at Misericordia University.
Rebecca was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week for the second straight week Tuesday after being selected Monday as the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week to follow up her Defensive Player selection a week earlier. The Team of the Week recognizes the top player in the country in Division III basketball at each position each week. She has been named one of the two MAC Freedom Players of the Week three times this season and six times in her career.
The latest honors came after Rebecca averaged 30.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 2.5 assists to help King’s win two MAC Freedom games. She had a career-high 20 rebounds in an 89-76 win over Stevens and had both a career-high of eight blocked shots and a season-high of 31 points in a 76-66 win over FDU-Florham.
Since the award, Rebecca added 15 points and 10 rebounds in Wednesday’s 75-53 victory over Wilkes to improve to 5-0 in the Freedom and 11-5 overall.
On the season, she is averaging 19.4 points and 11.1 rebounds while shooting 43.0 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the line.
King’s coach Caitlin Hadzimichalis credited Prociak with expanding her game this season, particularly as a rebounder. She has increased her scoring each college season by at least 2.2 points per game from the year before and her rebounding by at least 1.1.
Nick returned from almost two months out of action Jan. 18 to hit both of his shots while scoring five points in two minutes of an 81-61 loss at Stevens. He has played 21 minutes in four games, producing 10 points and five rebounds.
Misericordia is 2-3 and 6-10.
