Old Forge breezed through its first playoff game Friday night, as the unbeaten and state-ranked Blue Devils overpowered visiting Belmont Charter from Philadelphia, 55-14, for the District 1-2-12 Class A Subregional football championship.
The Blue Devils once again showed why PennLive.com has them ranked as the No. 1 Class A team in the state.
Old Forge opened a 20-0 lead in the first 7:35
Casey Holzman’s 42-yard run set up Josh Greenfield’s 1-yard touchdown. Ethan Tallo’s 24-yard punt return helped lead to an 8-yard touchdown run by Hezekiah Deitz. James Sobol passed 24 yards to Andrew Bartnikowski for the third touchdown.
Sobol ran 13 yards for a score and a 28-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
After Belmont Charter hit a 75-yard touchdown pass, Old Forge came right back with Sobol hitting Mario Samony for a 44-yard touchdown.
The entire second half was played under the Mercy Rule when Sobol hit Holzman with a 4-yard touchdown pass for a 41-6 halftime lead.
Holzman became the only Blue Devil to score twice when he ran 48 yards for a touchdown less than three minutes into the second half.
Keory Berrien’s 5-yard run made it 55-6 heading to the fourth quarter.
