Ella Hoban had a pair of fifth-place individual finishes and anchored a fourth-place relay team March 4-5 to lead Pittston Area to a fifth-place finish out of 10 Class 3A girls teams in the District 2 Swimming Championships at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

Hoban was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.83 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 59.41. She anchored the team’s best finish, a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and was part of a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Kacie Fisk was sixth in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley along with being a teammate of Hoban on both relays.

Emily Dunn was sixth in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 100 backstroke and part of both 200 relays.

Cassie Hintze was ninth in the 100 freestyle, 11th in the 50 freestyle and was the leadoff swimmer in the 200 freestyle relay.

Marissa Gubitoso was 10th in the 100 breaststroke and part of the fifth-place 400 freestyle relay.

Mackenzie Kaminski was the other member of the 200 medley relay.

Gisella Danchert, Lori Kozlowski and Bella Petrucci joined Gubitoso on the 400 freestyle relay.

Delaware Valley won the team title.

CLASS 3A BOYS

Pittston Area finished last out of seven teams in the meet, which was won by Hazleton Area.

Tanner Osborne was ninth in the 500 freestyle and swam a leg on the 400 freestyle team that came in sixth out of seven.

Jake Grzech was the other individual scorer by taking 12th in the 100 backstroke. He was on the 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams that each placed sixth.

Ryan Hintze and Josiah Lyons were on both sixth-place relay teams.

Jeff Ross was also a member of the medley relay team.

CLASS 2A

Dallas won both team titles.

Wyoming Area was last among the 12 scoring girls teams and the Warriors did not score a point in the boys meet.

Wyoming Area’s points came from finishing 10th of 11 in the 200 freestyle relay and 11th out of 12 in the 200 medley relay.

Julia Crane anchored both scoring relay teams and missed scoring individually by one place, taking 13th in the 50 freestyle for the best finish by a Lady Warrior in a meet where the top 12 scored points.

Sofia Sabatini and Ava Menditto were on both relays.

Karamia Marranca was on the medley relay and Samara Campenni was on the freestyle relay.
