The Allan Invitational, Fox Hill Country Club’s annual three-day member-guest since 1946, is scheduled for Friday through Sunday.
In the tournament’s alternating format, the championship flight will be decided by match play this year.
Conveniently, 16 teams have registered for the championship flight so their Friday medal-play rounds will be strictly to determine the seeding for the bracket play, which follows with two rounds each of the next two days.
The remaining 80 teams will be split into 20 flights of four teams each. Those teams will play each other team in their flight with 18-hole match play competition Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
In those flights, a point will be awarded for each hole, with teams capped at no more than 14 points for any one match. The team that scores the most points over the three days wins the flight.
“We’re back to our full-scale John Allan Tournament,” said Fox Hill general manager and Chief Operating Officer Shane Bradley.
The tournament went on, but with adjustments for COVID during the past two seasons.
“We’re back up to 96 teams in the field and we had a waiting list of 45 teams,” Bradley said.
Seniority of membership determines which players fill the field.
John Mikiewicz and Tom Biscotti are the defending champions.
Tournament festivities include a banquet at the club Friday night and a cocktail party Saturday.
