Bianca Pizano and Alexys Moore, the two senior leaders of Wyoming Area’s state championship game run last year, each had recent breakthroughs as freshmen playing National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I field hockey.
Pizano, who scored her first goal last month, made her first start at Michigan State Oct. 22.
Moore, who has started seeing more playing time at the University of Massachusetts had her first college point with an assist Oct. 20.
Pizano started and played 36 minutes of a 2-1 loss at Miami. The forward had two shots, one of them on goal. She scored a goal Sept. 24 in the team’s most recent victory, 3-0, over Central Michigan Sept. 24.
On the season, Pizano has appeared in 12 games. She has four shots, three on goal.
The Spartans had dropped six straight to fall to 1-6 in the Big Ten and 3-12 overall heading into Friday night’s game at nationally ranked Michigan.
Moore made her debut Sept. 15 and had a shot on goal during a 3-1 win over Saint Louis.
After playing in just two of the first 15 games, the midfielder/forward played in two straight games last weekend. She had an assist in a 5-0 victory over Richmond.
UMass is 5-1 in the Atlantic 10 and 12-6 overall.
