District 2 determined its first football champion of the season Friday night and, for the third straight year, Lackawanna Trail defeated Old Forge in the Class A title game.
Lukas Gumble ran for three touchdowns as the unbeaten Lions routed the Blue Devils, 40-0.
Lackawanna Trail, ranked second in the state by PennLive.com, had also defeated Old Forge on the way to the Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 title.
Fullback Hunter Patterson got the Lions’ potent ground game started in the rematch with a 60-yard run up the middle for a first-quarter touchdown.
Between meetings with the Lions, the Blue Devils had won three of four games, scoring a total of 122 points in wins over Susquehanna, Holy Cross and Carbondale.
Old Forge went 3-2 to finish third of six teams in LFC Division 3 and was 5-6 overall.
