Wyoming Area needed just five hits to score a dozen runs Friday in a 12-1 romp over visiting MMI Prep in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 baseball.
The Warriors scored nine times in the bottom of the second for the 12-1 lead, then closed out the game early on the 10-run rule, ending it in 4½ innings.
Tom Carlin thew a four-hitter with a walk and five strikeouts for the win.
The Warriors had five singles and took advantage of six walks, six hit batters, three wild pitches and two errors.
David Fath scored two runs and also drove in two.
Brady Noone drove in two runs while Jacob Snyder, Alex Vacula, Mitchell Rusinchak and Dylan Calvey scored twice.
The Warriors are 7-2 in the division, second to Holy Redeemer, and 9-7 overall.
Pittston Area 13, Berwick 4
Elijah Mead went 3-for-3 and scored four runs while four Pittston Area teammates added two hits each in Thursday’s WVC Division 1, home-field victory.
Mead also had three of his team’s nine stolen bases.
Dom Innamorati drove in three runs to go along with his two hits and two RBI. He had a triple and stole two bases.
Beau Widdick drove in three runs with his two hits.
Silvio Giardina and Jake Aftewicz had two hits each. Giardina stole two bases, scored twice and drove in a run. Aftewicz doubled and drove in two runs.
Jacoby Harnen finished up the game with 2 2/3 scoreless innings on the mound.
Drew DeLucca had a double.
Pittston Area finished the week 10-1, a half-game behind Hazleton Area in the Division 1 race. The Patriots are 14-2 overall.
Wyoming Area 2, Nanticoke 1
Matt Rusinchak drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Warriors to the Wednesday victory at Atlas Field.
Rusinchak’s walk forced in Dominic Donati, a courtesy runner for Jeremy Layland, who led off the inning with a single.
Layland was 2-for-2.
Rusinchak allowed only an unearned run in the first inning. He pitched a five-hitter with four walks and a strikeout.
Wilkes-Barre Area 5, Pittston Area 3
Wilkes-Barre Area snapped Pittston Area’s 11-game winning streak by beating the Patriots Wednesday and knocking them out of the Division 1 lead.
The Wolfpack scored four times in the bottom of the third for a 5-0 lead.
Pittston Area rallied for three runs in the fifth. The Patriots had the winning run at the plate after Jake Aftewicz’s RBI double and brought the tying run to the plate again in the seventh.
Drew DeLucca drove in one run and scored another.
Crestwood 18, Wyoming Area 17
Crestwood fell behind in the top of the eighth, but came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to pull out the non-league victory Monday.
Both teams had nine-run innings.
Wyoming Area scored three runs in the top of the first. Crestwood used its big inning to take an 11-3 lead after two innings.
The Warriors trailed 15-7 before moving in front with nine runs in the top of the seventh. The Comets tied it in the bottom of the inning to extend the game.
Brady Noone doubled, singled, had a sacrifice fly and drove in five runs. Three of his RBI came in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk and two-run single.
Jacob Snyder had three hits and scored three times.
Jeremy Layland doubled, singled and drove in three runs. Matt Rusinchak had two hits and scored twice. Alex Vacula and David Fath each scored three times.
Pittston Area 11, Crestwood 2
Drew DeLucca drove in three runs and scored three while Silvio Giardina and T.J. Johnson combined on a three-hitter April 28 to lead Pittston Area to the win at Crestwood in WVC Division 1.
DeLucca had a double and single.
Giardina did not allow an earned run. He walked three and struck out five in six innings.
Johnson worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to close out the win.
The Comets led 2-0 going into the fifth inning.
The Patriots scored four times in the fifth, taking the lead on a two-run homer by Dom Innamorati.
Beau Widdick’s two-run single highlighted the six-run sixth. He also had another hit.
