Wyoming Area’s Luca Argenio-Christian Abromovage posted a pair of straight-set victories before being eliminated in the semifinals of the District 2 Class 2A boys tennis doubles tournament.
Argenio, who reached the final in singles a week earlier, and Abromovage received a first-round bye as the tournament’s second seed. They then posted a pair of victories Monday to reach Tuesday’s semifinals at Kirby Park.
The Wyoming Area team handled Tunkhannock’s Ben Landon-Ryan Negvesky 6-1, 6-1, then defeated seventh-seeded Christopher Ramos-Pablo Otero from Wyoming Seminary, 6-3, 6-3.
Sixth-seeded Frank Klimovitz-Jacob Uhrin from Holy Redeemer upset Argenio-Abromovage 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals as part of a strong tournament performance.
Klimovitz-Uhrin beat third-seeded David Ved-Matthew Cohen from Scranton Prep 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and also took the first set from eventual champions Bill Hall-Ansarali-Atabayev before losing 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
Wyoming Area’s other team, Liam Burke-Dominic Colavito, had a close, first-round match, but lost to Dunmore’s Evan McHale-Connor Roberts 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
Pittston Area’s only entry in the District 2 Class 3A tournament won its first match Monday, then lost its second.
Tanner Osborn-Nick Jones defeated Berwick’s Josh Fudale-Ronin Zoblik 6-2, 6-0, then lost to the fifth-seeded Wilkes-Barre Area team of Michael Hamel-Harold Stella 6-3, 6-4.
William Arp-Dominic Peters from Abington Heights won the Class 3A title.
