Wyoming Area carried a perfect record into the final week of the field hockey regular season.
The Lady Warriors posted a shutout in the first of their two wins. It was their second straight and fifth in six games. They had eight total shutouts going into Saturday’s non-league game at Dallas as part of a 14-0 season that includes a 9-0 record in Division 1 of the Wyoming Valley Conference.
The Lady Warriors have already clinched at least a tie for first place in WVC Division 1 and can repeat their title with a win at home in Wednesday’s regular-season finale against Honesdale.
Wyoming Area will be the top seed in the District 2 Class A tournament.
Wyoming Area 12, Northwest 2
Lucia Campenni scored four times, including three in the first 6:22, Thursday when the Lady Warriors won the non-league road game.
Campenni had the game’s first three goals and helped Wyoming Area to a 6-0 lead after one quarter.
After the Lady Rangers scored twice in the second quarter, the Lady Warriors outscored them again 6-0 in the second half.
Lyla Rehill had three goals and two assists in the win.
Juliana Gonzales, who had an assist, and Talia Pizano scored twice each. Ella McKernan scored the other goal and also had an assist.
Ella Campenni and Ainsley Flynn added assists.
Tunkhannock 1, Pittston Area 0
Tunkhannock shut out host Pittston Area in a WVC Division 2 game Wednesday.
Pittston Area finished the regular season with an 11-3 division record, tied for second place with Wallenpaupack.
While waiting for other teams to complete their seasons, the Lady Patriots currently have the third-best playoff power rating of the nine teams trying to get into the eight-team District 2-4 Class 2A Subregional playoffs. They are guaranteed a spot and almost certain to host a quarterfinal with Shikellamy as the most likely opponent.
Dallas 4, Pittston Area 0
Davyn Bonvie made 14 saves as host Dallas posted its 11th shutout of the season, completing a home-and-home sweep of Pittston Area to break a first-place tie on the way to the WVC Division 2 title.
Maggie Smith scored twice.
The Mountaineers clinched at least a tie for first with the victory, then added another shutout to finish with a 13-1 record in first place in the eight-team division.
Wyoming Area 5, Abington Heights 0
Wyoming Area defeated division rival Abington Heights for the second time this season, using Monday’s non-league game to pick up a home victory.
Lyla Rehill scored the first and last goals and also had an assist.
Lucia Campenni had a goal and two assists while Ella McKernan had a goal and an assist.
Talia Pizano had the other goal.
