Bianca Pizano shared the goal-scoring lead on the Michigan State field hockey team.
The sophomore forward from Wyoming Area did not make a start, but still managed to match the team lead of five goals on the season, which concluded Friday. In terms of goals per minute played, Pizano scored more than three times as often as any other player on the Spartans roster.
Pizano was named team Rookie of the Year and Most Improved Player on the team last season after scoring two goals.
This season, Pizano produced two goals in a game twice, wins over University of California-Davis and Colgate. She scored the game-winner against Colgate and had a goal in a 3-2 loss to Ohio University.
Michigan State’s 8-10 season, which included a 1-7 record in the Big Ten, came to an end with Friday’s 1-0 loss at Indiana University. Pizano had two of the team’s seven shots in the shutout loss.
Pizano appeared in all 18 games and took 16 shots, 11 of which were on goal. She had the team’s highest shooting percentages in terms of scoring on her shots and in putting her shots on goal.
