Wyoming Area’s Luca Argenio two matches Thursday at Kirby Park before being eliminated in Friday’s semifinals of the District 2 Class 2A boys tennis singles tournament.
Argenio received a first-round bye. The tournament’s third seed then rolled over Mid Valley’s Gabriel Jones 6-0, 6-0 and battled past sixth-seeded Xavier Bleiler from MMI Prep 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
Wyoming Seminary’s Billy Hall handled Argenio 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.
Scranton Prep’s Akhilesh Velaga defeated Hall 6-1, 6-2 for the title.
Wyoming Area’s Christian Abromavage lost in the first round against eighth-seeded Nate Linnen from Dallas 6-0, 6-1.
Class 3A
Both Pittston Area players were eliminated in the first round of the Class 3A tournament Thursday at Wilkes University.
Wallenpaupack’s Igor Petek defeated Yaroslav Tsybuliak 6-2, 6-1. West Scranton’s Pujan Nepal topped Nick Jones 6-2, 6-0.
