Greater Pittston Area and Township Baseball formed a Little League partnership earlier this year that will be on display when District 16 Tournament action opens.

Schedules are set for tournament play in District 16 of Pennsylvania Little League, both baseball and softball, some of which begins as early as Monday.

The Greater Pittston teams that are the combined efforts of the Greater Pittston Area and Township Little Leagues have the potential to be a major factor in the tournament season.

Baseball

Greater Pittston is part of the five-team field when the Major Division, for players ages 10-12, opens Thursday.

Greater Pittston is at Hanover in a game played in Ashley as one of Thursday’s 6 p.m. openers.

Hanover, Plains and Wilkes-Barre are also in the field for four games of pool play through June 27.

The top four teams will proceed to July 1 semifinals and Jenkins Township will be the site of the July 7 championship game.

Greater Pittston will have two entries in the 8-10-year-old division.

GP National will play in Division 1 with Hanover and Plains. GP American is in Division 2 with Mountain Top and Wilkes-Barre.

The tournament opens June 22 at 2 p.m. with GP American playing at Wilkes-Barre in a game at the South Wilkes-Barre field.

GP National opens June 24 at 6 p.m. at Hanover.

Teams play two games in their pool to determine the four semifinalists, who square off July 2.

The 9-11-year-old title will be determined in a best-of-three series between Greater Pittston and Mountain Top.

They play June 26 at Pittston City and June 29 at Mountain Top.

If a third game is needed, it will be June 30 at Pittston City.

Softball

Greater Pittston hosts Plains Monday in a four-team Major tournament (10-12) that also includes Mountain Top and Hanover Area.

The teams will be seeded after a round-robin and play semifinals June 23. The final is set for June 27 at Nanticoke.

Greater Pittston joins Mountain Top, Hanover Area and Plains in the 8-10-year-old tournament.

Greater Pittston is at Plains Thursday at 6 in one of the openers.

The four teams will be seeded for the June 25 semifinals. The final is June 29 at the Ashley Little League Complex.
