
Nearly 100 Little League games will be played in the Wyoming Valley over the next month. Greater Pittston will be represented in most of those games.
The District 16 and 31 baseball and softball championships begin June 22 and run through the second week of July.
In Major Baseball, for players aged 11 and 12, teams will pool play five games and the two top teams from each class will head to the semifinals.
District 16 will feature three local teams: Pittston City, Jenkins Township/Duryea and Avoca/Dupont in Class A. District 31’s Class B will feature Wyoming/West Wyoming and West Pittston.
District 31 schedule
• Wyoming/West Wyoming will play West Pittston at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 at West Side.
• On Tuesday, June 30, West Side plays Wyoming/West Wyoming at 5:30 p.m., while West Pittston plays Kingston/Forty-Fort at 7:30 p.m.
• Wyoming/West Wyoming will then play Kingston/FF at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at West Pittston, while West Side plays West Pittston at 7:30 p.m.
• The final game of pool play will feature West Pittston vs. Wyoming/West Wyoming at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 5.
District 16 Class A pool schedule
• The district’s play opens on Saturday, June 27 at Hanover when Plains plays Jenkins Twp./Duryea at 2 p.m. and Pittston City plays Hanover at 4 p.m.
• On Tuesday, June 30 at Duryea, Pittston City plays Plains at 5:30 p.m. while Avoca/Dupont plays Jenkins Twp./Duryea at 7:30 p.m.
• Pittston City will play Avoca/Dupont at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at Plains.
• Avoca/Dupont plays Hanover at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 5 at Pittston City, while Jenkins Twp./Duryea plays Pittston City at 4 p.m.
• Class A pool play finishes on Tuesday July 7 at Avoca/Dupont when Jenkins Twp./Duryea meets Hanover at 5:30 p.m. and Plains plays Avoca/Dupont at 7:30 p.m.
District 16 Class B pool schedule
• On Saturday, June 27, Pittston Township plays South Wilkes-Barre at 2 p.m. at Mountain Top.
• At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30 at South Wilkes-Barre, Pittston Township plays Mountain Top.
• Pittston Township then plays North Wilkes-Barre at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at Nanticoke.
• On Tuesday, July 7, Pittston Township hosts Nanticoke at 7:30 p.m.
The semifinals for District 31 and 16 will be held on Saturday, July 11. The finals for both districts will be held on Tuesday, July 14 at Pittston Township. The finals will be televised on MyNetworkTV WQMY. For complete brackets and tournament schedules, visit www.padistrict16-31.com.
9-10 Baseball
The 9 and 10-year-old baseball tournament will open on Sunday, June 28. West Pittston and Exeter will play in District 31’s Class A pool, while Wyoming/West Wyoming will play in Class B. In District 16, Pittston Township and Avoca/Dupont will play in Class A, while Pittston City and Jenkins Twp./Duryea will play in Class B.
The semifinals will be held on Sunday, July 12, while the finals will be held on Wednesday, July 15.
West Pittston Little League Field will host the East Region Championship Tournament for the 9-10 level — meaning the younger All-Stars from around the Wyoming Valley will be vying for a shot to play in their home area if they can win the Pennsylvania championship.
10-11 Baseball
Two local teams will take part in the 10 and 11-year-old tournament. West Pittston and Exeter will play in District 31’s Class A. Play for that tournament opens on Friday, July 3 at Back Mountain. The finals will be held on Monday, July 13.
West Pittston opens play against Kingston/Forty-Fort at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3 at Back Mountain. Exeter plays Back Mountain at 7:30 p.m.
Junior Baseball
The District 16 Junior Baseball double elimination tournament will begin on Friday, July 2. Participating teams from the Greater Pittston area are Avoca/Dupont-Pittston City and Pittston Area. AD-Pittston City opens the tournament at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2 at Christian Field. Pittston Area will play Nanticoke at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 3 at Hollenback Field.
In District 31, play opens on Tuesday, July 7. The lone local team involved is Greater Wyoming Area. GWA hosts Back Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7 at GWA. The winner will then play Kingston/Forty-Fort on Thursday, June 9.
Senior Baseball
The District 16 Senior Baseball double elimination tournament begins on Monday, June 29. Local teams involved are Pittston Area Blue and Avoca/Dupont-Pittston City. PA Blue opens play at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 29 against Hanover, while AD-Pittston City awaits the winner of that game on Tuesday, June 30.
In District 31, Greater Wyoming Area will host Kingston/Forty-Fort at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 29. District 31 is also a double elimination tournament.
Major Softball
In Major Softball, both District 16 and 31 will feature double elimination tournaments. In District 31, Greater Wyoming Area will host West Side at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 22. GWA’s home games are played at Flack Field and all games will begin at 6 p.m. The championship game will be played on Tuesday, June 30.
In District 16, Greater Pittston will travel to Nanticoke on Monday, June 22 at the field behind Nanticoke High School. The championship game will be played on Tuesday, June 30.
9-10 Softball
Greater Wyoming Area will represent District 31 in a double elimination tournament. The team will travel to West Side at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 9. GWA’s home games will be played at Exeter Little League.
In District 16, Greater Pittston will travel to Nanticoke at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 9. Greater Pittston’s home games will be played at Jenkins Township.
Senior Softball
Greater Pittston will play in the District 16 double elimination tournament. The team will host North Wilkes-Barre at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 at Jenkins Township.
Junior Softball
Greater Pittston will play in the District 16 double elimination tournament. The team will host Nanticoke at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 at Jenkins Township.
No Greater Pittston area teams will be participating in District 31.
10-11 Softball
Greater Pittston will play in the District 16 double elimination tournament. The team will travel to Nanticoke at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 13. Greater Pittston’s home games will be played at Pittston Township.
West Side Little League was named District 31 champions.

Andrew Galli picked up the win for Pittston Township and also had three hits and scored three runs. Frankie Nocito pitched in a double for the winners.
Sean Connors, PJ Pisano, Pat Bennie and Josh Baiera each had two hits for Pittston Township. Max Rosen had a hit for West Pittston.

Duryea Blue scored five runs in the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie and earn the win over Duryea Red on Tuesday, June 16.
Marshal Gordon hit a three-run double in the fourth and then scored on Josh Smargiassi’s double. Alex Michaylo finished the inning by driving in Smargiassi.
Gordan finished 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. Smargiassi was also 2-for-2, driving in two. Luke Snyder and Nick Borgia each had a hit and scored twice.
Paul Rusincovitch finished the game with three hits and two RBI for Duryea Red. Chase Montigney had three hits and an RBI. Eddie Rosiak and Drew Mauriello each had two hits and an RBI.
