PITTSTON — Sixteen teams. Beautiful weather. Three fields.
That’s a recipe for the annual Pittston Area Patriot Cup.
The event was held on Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Pittston Area Primary Center in Hughestown. Sixteen teams – eight boys and eight girls – from the Wyoming Valley participated in the day-long event. Games started at 8 a.m. and championships were held just prior to sundown.
The Pittston Area girls team, playing as Persistent Infringement, and Dallas were each 3-0 and advanced to the championship game. Pittston Area fell to Dallas, 1-0.
Pittston Area took down Scranton Prep, Holy Redeemer and the Lady Lake Sharks each 1-0 before falling to Dallas in the final. Wyoming Area was 1-2 on the day, picking up a 3-1 win against Wyoming Valley West.
On the boys side, Crestwood beat Coughlin in a shootout. Pittston Area won its first game, 3-0, against Holy Redeemer before falling in the next two. Wyoming Area picked up a 2-0 win against Hanover.
