EXETER – Pittston Area does not have an official boys swimming team, but the Patriots do have four boys competing as individuals, who will use various dual meets as a chance to post times to try to qualify for seeding in the District 2 championships.
The four Patriots used Tuesday’s Wyoming Valley Conference girls swimming opener for the school as a chance to compete against Wyoming Area’s boys team.
As a result, boys’ races were conducted in seven of nine individual events and Wyoming Area’s boys swam one of the three relays to try to post a time that could help them for the postseason.
Wyoming Area’s Alex Chronowski and Austin Alder won the day’s two most competitive races, each finishing first out of five swimmers in an event. Chronowski won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.44 seconds and Alder won the 100 freestyle in 1:00.09.
Pittston Area’s Peter Fox, in the 100 breaststroke, and Wyoming Area’s Seth White, in the 500 freestyle, each won in races where they were going against only a teammate.
White (100 backstroke), Alder (200 individual medley) and the Wyoming Area 400 freestyle relay team each simply raced the clock, swimming unopposed as did Pittston Area’s Michael Talerico in the 100 butterfly.
Tom Dessoye and Seth Gollmer join Fox and Talerico as the Pittston Area individuals.
Because the Patriots do not have a team, there was not an official team score for the exhibition meet.
Wyoming Area has a small roster, but competes as a team in the Wyoming Valley Conference. The Warriors are 0-1.
