Greater Pittston residents Lauren Lanzendoerfer and Peyton McNulty anchored record-setting relay teams for Scranton Prep Friday when the first half of the swimming competition was conducted in the District 2 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Wilkes-Barre CYC.

Lanzendoerfer helped Scranton Prep win the first event of the day in Class 2A with a district record time of 1:49.02 in the 200-yard medley relay.

McNulty put the Classics in the record books in the final event of the first day, finishing a 200 freestyle relay of 1:37.98.

Lanzendoerfer and McNulty helped keep Lackawanna League champion Scranton Prep in title contention, behind defending champion Dallas and Wyoming Valley Conference champion Wyoming Seminary in a tight three-way race.

The meet was scheduled to conclude Saturday after deadline for this edition.

Wyoming Area finished the first day tied for 16th out of 19 teams in Class 2A girls.

The Warriors were 11th out of 14 teams in Class 2A boys.

Wyoming Area’s boys had their best finish in the 200 freestyle relay, taking eighth out of 11 entries. The girls were 12th out of 16 teams in the 200 medley relay.

Erin Senese led Pittston Area by finishing fifth in 100 butterfly in Class 3A girls with a time of 1:05.8.

The Lady Patriots also had a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay, but reached the halfway point of the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional championships in last place in the eight-team field.
