WILKES-BARRE — Holy Redeemer opened the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A boys basketball playoffs with a win Friday night, earning a shot at the three-time defending state champions.

Collin Cook scored 15 points and fellow sophomore Nick Prociak, from Jenkins Twp., contributed eight when Holy Redeemer pulled away to defeat World Communications, 64-42, at Wilkes University.

By beating the fourth-place team from District 12, which is for Philadelphia schools, the Royals moved into Tuesday’s second round against the District 12 champions.

Neumann-Goretti won the last three PIAA Class 3A titles in the old four-class system.
