YATESVILLE – Whether going fast or far, Jessica Tighe plans to continue running when she gets to King’s College in the fall.
A sprinter in track and field season, Tighe plans to keep running for the Lady Monarchs in all three sports seasons. She will spend the fall doing distance work as a member of the cross country team and will return to sprinting in the winter indoor and spring outdoor track seasons.
“In my junior year, I started thinking about running in college,” said Tighe, who plans to major in mathematics and secondary education with a minor in special education. “My coach said I did have a chance.
“When I made finals at districts my junior year, I knew that when I went to college that first it would be about my education and second it would be about running.”
Tighe began running cross country and track and field at Pittston Area on the junior high teams in seventh grade. She has continued each for six years.
Pittston Area has clinched at least a tie for the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 title with Tighe contributing in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and as a member of the 400-meter relay team.
Tighe said she chose King’s because of the combination of it being close to home, the education program and the interest shown in her by head coach Mike Kolinovsky.
