Other fall sports around the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association join football Monday in holding official practice sessions in preparation for the beginning of the season.
Football teams have already gone through their five days of restricted “heat-acclimatization” practices in preparation for double sessions and workouts in full equipment in the upcoming week.
Golf, cross country, soccer, field hockey, girls tennis and girls volleyball all begin practices Monday.
The PIAA allows golf to begin regular-season competitions Thursday. Regular-season girls tennis competition and scrimmages for football and other sports are both legal beginning Saturday.
The Wyoming Valley Conference has scheduled conference play to open in golf Aug. 17, girls tennis Aug. 23 and football Aug. 25.
Cross country, soccer, field hockey and girls volleyball regular-season events can begin September 1. The WVC will begin boys and girls soccer and girls volleyball that day.
Cross country and field hockey conference events will not start until Sept. 6.
The first WVC events involving Greater Pittston teams will be Aug. 21 when Pittston Area is at Dallas and Wyoming Area is at Coughlin in girls tennis.
