Cole Coolbaugh and Jimmy Kosco again led the way, but Wyoming Area’s season sweep of Pittston Area was made more comfortable by a career-best competitive round from senior Jerry Wall.

Wall shot 44 while Coolbaugh and Kosco broke 40 in the first foursome to lead the Warriors to Monday’s 164-184 victory in a Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A-1 Division match at Fox Hill Country Club.

“That’s the best score Jerry’s had in a match,” Wyoming Area coach Gordon Williams said. “He just kept it consistent. He did not have any blow-up holes.”

Almost three weeks earlier, Coolbaugh and Kosco each shot 4-over-par, 40s on the back nine in a four-stroke victory over the Patriots.

Monday, they each went lower while playing on the par-35 front nine.

Coolbaugh had two birdies in a four-hole stretch on the way to medalist honors with a 38. Kosco added a 39.

“This one was a little more definitive,” Williams said of the win.

Coolbaugh helped make it that way with birdies on the 342-yard, par-4 fourth hole and 163-yard, par-3 seventh. With the pin on the upper level of the two-tiered green at 7, Coolbaugh put his tee shot on the proper level and rolled in a 15-foot putt.

“He got it up on the top tier,” Williams said. “It helps to hit that one up on top.”

Seniors were responsible for the three Wyoming Area scores that counted behind Coolbaugh.

Dylan Melberger added a 43 to the rounds by Kosco and Wall.

Dylan Burwell led Pittston Area with a 44. Allie Craig shot 45, Derek Cunius 47 and Nick Scavo 48.
