Wyoming Area’s Brianna Pizzano put up a tough battle in the second set Friday afternoon before being eliminated in the first round of the Class 2A singles portion of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Tennis Championships at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Brooke Bauer from Knoch, the third-place finisher from District 7, which encompasses the Pittsburgh suburbs, won the first set from Pizzano, 6-0.

Bauer was pushed to the limit in the second set before winning it, 7-5, to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Pizzano, a sophomore, has won District 2 Class 2A singles titles in each of her first two high school seasons. They are the first two district singles championships ever by a Wyoming Area player.
