Wyoming Area will have an entirely new Wyoming Valley Conference golf schedule for the next two seasons while Pittston Area will have some changes to its schedule.

The conference has realigned its divisions to adjust to the next two-year enrollment cycle in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Wyoming Area switched from Class 3A, for the largest half of PIAA’s schools playing golf, to Class 2A for the smaller half.

The WVC has four divisions, two each for Class 3A teams and Class 2A teams.

According to Pittston Area athletic director Charlie Turco, who serves as WVC chairman/secretary/treasurer for golf, Wyoming Area will compete in Division 3 with Meyers, Holy Redeemer and GAR. The Warriors will play those teams twice and will have one match each against Division 4 members Wyoming Seminary, MMI Prep, Hanover Area, Lake-Lehman and Berwick.

All eight opponents and all 11 matches are new to the schedule.

Pittston Area will be in Division 1 with Dallas, Tunkhannock and Coughlin. It will play those teams twice each and will play once against Division 2 members Nanticoke, Crestwood, Hazleton Area and Wyoming Valley West.

Nanticoke moved from Class 2A and is a new team on Pittston Area’s schedule while Dallas moves over from the other division of Class 3A teams and becomes an opponent for two matches instead of one. The Patriots will no longer play Wyoming Area in two conference matches.

Wyoming Area was 5-5 to finish second and Pittston Area was 3-7 to place third when they were both part of the four-team Division 1 last season.
