Michael “Buck” Schwab has already made six relief pitching appearances in the first month of his senior season playing NCAA Division I baseball at Lehigh University.
The Pittston Area graduate is on track to have his busiest – and best – season on the mound for the Mountain Hawks.
Schwab made 11 appearances as a freshman, five as a sophomore and six last year. He entered this season with a 1-1 record and 6.97 earned run average for his career.
After working one inning in each of his six appearances, the lefty reliever has a career-low 3.00 ERA. He has given up two runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three.
Schwab struck out two in a scoreless inning against Butler Feb. 17. In his last outing March 16, he allowed one run in a loss at Richmond.
Lehigh is off to an 8-10 start all in road or neutral site games.
Schwab was a three-sport captain as a football, basketball and baseball player for the Patriots. An engineering major, he was class valedictorian and president of the school’s National Honor Society while at Pittston Area.
