Pittston Area dominated the singles matches on its home court Friday afternoon to advance into the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional boys team tennis semifinals.
Nick Harth, Matt Costello and John Romanowski lost just five games in six sets during the 3-2 quarterfinal victory over Scranton.
The Patriots will play in Monday’s 11:30 a.m. semifinal against top-seeded Delaware Valley at Kirby Park. The winner will meet the Abington Heights-Williamsport winner in the 2:30 final.
Harth won 6-0, 6-1, at first singles against Scranton.
Costello won, 6-1, 6-1, and Romanowski, 6-2, 6-0, and second and third singles.
Joe Carey-Nick Maglio and Peter Fox-Tom Dessoye each put up a fight in the second set of doubles before losing. Carey-Maglio won four games in the set and Fox-Dessoye won five.
Pittston Area finished 7-3 to win the Wyoming Valley Conference’s Class 3A Division and claim the fourth seed among 11 teams that battled for six postseason berths.
Wyoming Area went 5-5 to finish tied for the eighth and final spot out of 16 teams chasing District 2 Class 2A berths. The Warriors met Dunmore (7-7) in a playoff for that last spot, but lost to the host Bucks, 3-2, Wednesday.
Nick Perry, in third singles, and Matt Abromavage-Jake Butwin, in second doubles, pulled out close wins for the Warriors.
Singles play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Kirby Park with District 2 Class 2A and District 2-4 Class 3A tournaments continuing until four semifinalists are determined in each.
The semifinals are finals are scheduled for Wednesday at Kirby Park, beginning at 1 p.m.
Pittston Area’s Harth is the fifth seed for the Class 3A event.
