Wyoming Area tackle/defensive end Cameron Carr has accepted an invitation to the participate in the 13th annual Offense-Defense All-American Bowl Week in Daytona Beach, Fla. Dec. 26-31.
Carr was chosen after a selection committee reviewed videos of his play at Wyoming Area and Standardized Athletic Testing data.
“I’m definitely going to take advantage of it and try to show off my talents in the game,” said Carr, a 6-foot-4, 205-pounder who hopes to add weight and play defensive end in college. “I’ve heard there are a lot of recruits going.
“But, also, I’m just thankful and honored just to be playing again.”
The senior’s two-way play up front made him one of the leading contributors when Wyoming Area won its first 11 games this season, claiming a Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A/A Division title and reaching the District 2 Class 3A football semifinals where they suffered their only loss on a touchdown with less than seven seconds left.
“It was amazing,” Carr said. “There was just something about us this year that I don’t really know how to explain.
“It was an awesome experience. We had a lot of injuries, but the new guys who stepped up were awesome and it was just a great experience for everyone.”
During his career at Wyoming Area, Carr had 21 ½ sacks, made 26 other tackles for losses and rushed the passer into an incompletion or interception 16 times. He was in on a total of 134 tackles.
Carr played tight end in eighth and ninth grade, but began making the transition to offensive tackle in his sophomore season. He eventually spent almost all of his offensive time at tackle as a junior and senior.
