Julian Campenni’s coaching career is progressing rapidly.
The former Wyoming Area lineman was named Monday as one of two assistants to complete Scot Loeffler’s coaching staff with the Bowling Green State University football team.
Loeffler added Brian VanGorder as associate head coach working with linebackers. Campenni will coach the defensive line.
While VanGorder has been coaching since 1981, Campenni just got started at Wyoming Area in 2016 after an invite to Indianapolis Colts rookie minicamp.
Campenni went from his playing career at Wyoming Area to the University of Connecticut where he was a second-team, All-American Athletic Conference all-star defensive lineman as a senior. He played in 47 career games at UConn, 38 of them as a starter.
After his college career and exploration of National Football League possibilities, Campenni coached defensive linemen on Wyoming Area’s Wyoming Valley Conference Class 4A Division championship team.
Campenni then spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Boston College, helping lead to the opportunity at Bowling Green.
At Boston College, Campenni worked with the offensive line. That group ranked 11th in the country in sacks allowed, 24th in rushing yardage and first in fewest penalties.
