Pittston Area graduate Phil Cocco throwing for The University of Scranton

Phil Cocco, who won a District 2 Class 3A shot put championship for Pittston Area last May, is a freshman thrower on The University of Scranton track and field team.

Cocco made his collegiate debut in Scranton’s only indoor meet prior to the New Year.

In addition to placing eight in the shot put with 39-2 ½, Cocco took 11th and was the highest freshman finisher in the weight throw at Susquehanna University’s River Hawk Open.

Scranton returns to action Jan. 26 in the John Covert Classic at Lehigh University.
