EXETER – Cameron Carr and Matt Wycoski were leaders of a Wyoming Area line that dominated on both sides of the ball during an unbeaten 2018 regular season that produced a Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A-A Division football title.

The two seniors will remain teammates in the future after both signed Letters of Intent Wednesday to commit to athletic scholarships from Millersville University, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II school.

“Being one of the best teams in the Wyoming Valley Conference exposed us to recruiters,” Wycoski said.

Wycoski and Carr were 1-2 on the team in pancake blocks while leading a ground game that averaged 6.6 yards per carry and 256 per game.

Carr led the defense in sacks with 12, along with total tackles, tackles for losses and pass rushes.

Wycoski, who will study business management or construction management, is expected to play offense at Millersville as either a tackle or guard.

Carr will play defensive end and knows that at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, he will have to grow into that position on the college level.

“Right now, I’m obviously a little underweight for a college defensive end, but the coach is happy to work with me,” said Carr, who was part of the rotation at tight end as a sophomore while playing back-up middle linebacker. He started at offensive tackle and defensive end for his last two high school seasons, becoming one of District 2’s top defensive forces as a senior.

“I had no idea it was going to go like that,” Carr said. “I was shocked. I’m happy not only with how it went for me on defense, but with the whole entire defense and everybody contributing.”

Carr, who plans to major in business management, also considered Wilkes University and made a recruiting visit to Lock Haven.

Wycoski said he was close to committing to Bloomsburg University when Carr suggested he take a visit to Millersville. He also had considered Utica, Wilkes and Lycoming.

“I always knew it was a possibility,” Wycoski, a 6-3, 290-pounder, said of earning an athletic scholarship. “When I started really playing more and then last year, I knew it was real.”

Wycoski was on the varsity since his freshman year and started both ways in the line the last two seasons. He also completes in track and field as a thrower.

Carr competes in track and field in the long jump, high jump, shot pout and discus. After a year off, he plans to return to lacrosse as a defender this spring.
