Kyle Emsley, Connor Wrobleski and Robin Wrobleski won quarterfinal bouts Friday night at Hazleton Area to join Wyoming Area teammate Jaryn Polit-Moran in the semifinals of the District 2 Class 2A Wrestling Championships.

Polit-Moran is competing at 195 pounds where there were only four entries, so all were guaranteed of a spot in Saturday’s action.

The tournament was scheduled to conclude Saturday after presstime for this edition.

Emsley pinned Dalton Deacon of Lackawanna Trail in 3:10 at 120 pounds. Connor Wrobleski scored an 18-6 major decision over Lackawanna Trail’s Cullen Ratchford at 138 pounds. Robin Wrobleski pinned Tunkhannock’s Frankie Scranta at 132 pounds.

Wyoming Area finished the first day in eighth place out of 12 in the team standings.

Adam Signan (126), Vincenzo Giambra (152) and Vincent Bowers (182) each lost their only bout Friday and were wrestling Saturday in the consolation bracket to try to work their way back to third place.

All but two of Pittston Area’s 13 wrestlers were eliminated Friday night in Class 3A where the Patriots were last of 15 teams.

Kyle Mlodzienski won two out of three bouts at 195 pounds and A.J. Gorto, who lost his only bout in a smaller 160-pound bracket, were the only Patriots to make it through Friday.

Keith Romanczuk (138), Nick Ridgley (145) and C.J. Demark (152) each won once before suffering their second losses of the tournament and being eliminated.
