Greater Pittston and Tri-Boro each made it to third-place playoff games to try to land their respective league’s final berth in the Region 5 Senior American Legion Baseball Tournament.

The Region 5 tournament got underway Friday at the Pittston Area Primary Center in Hughestown, but Greater Pittston missed out on a chance to be playing on its home field when it lost the Wyoming Valley League third-place game to Stripes & Strikes from Hazleton, 3-0, Tuesday.

Jack Diaz threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Stripes & Strikes, which broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning on a pinch-hit, two-out, two-run double by Ryan Pietrzyk.

Cameron Kohut and Matt Sorick had the only hits for Greater Pittston.

Cole Cherkas threw a three-hitter in the loss that ended the Greater Pittston season.

Tri-Boro, made up of players from Old Forge, Taylor and Moosic, defeated Abington, 4-3, Tuesday for third place in the Lackawanna County-based District 11 League and a regional tournament berth.

Winning pitcher Christian Cimakasky and Patrick Donovan each had two hits for Tri-Boro, which broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning.
