Former Pittston Area football coach Bob Barbieri and Wyoming Area player Joe Karcutskie will be among 15 new members of the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame, which will hold induction ceremonies Aug. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Gus Genetti Conference Center in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
Barbieri was the first and remains the winningest coach in the history of the Pittston Area football program.
Karcutskie went on to become the all-time leading tackler as a linebacker at Brown University. After being named Brown’s Most Valuable Freshman, he became the first Brown player to lead the team in tackles for three straight seasons and the first to exceed 100 tackles in a season twice.
Barbieri posted a 145-92-5 record as coach of the Patriots from 1966 to 1988. His son Nick is the current Pittston Area head coach.
Karcutskie was inducted into the Wyoming Area Ring of Pride for his performance as a two-way player in high school. He is a member of Brown’s Hall of Fame and was part of the Brown 125th Anniversary Team selected in 2003 as one of the top six linebackers in school history.
