With Brianna Pizzano and Bella Scappaticci at the top of a predominantly senior lineup, Wyoming Area figures to scores a lot of points at the top two singles positions, but the Lady Warriors prospects in team competition could hinge on how well they fill the remaining positions.

Pizzano broke on the scene as a freshman when she won the first District 2 girls tennis singles title in school history. She added another title in 2017, then reached the finals of both singles and doubles (with Scappaticci) last season.

The doubles final appearance for Pizzano came in her first team competing in that format in high school since she could only enter after being eliminating from pursuit of the singles title.

While Pizzano was going 13-0 in Wyoming Valley Conference play at number-one singles, Scappaticci was 10-3 in the second spot.

“We need to see the strength of our lineup,” Lady Warriors coach Bill Roberts said.

The rest of the lineup is inexperienced, or at least in the positions they will hold.

Abigail Drendall, another senior, moves up from second doubles to fill the third singles spot.

“Abigail is playing singles for the first time,” Roberts said. “She’s a really good hitter, so I’m expecting a lot from her, but we’re see what happens.”

Cara Yorina, another senior, also has doubles experience and could be part of the number-two team.

Senior sisters Amanda and Sarah McCormick, playing the sport for the first time, appear ready to take over first doubles.

Roberts said the team has a total of 10 girls, including a junior and three sophomores, to fill out the seven-player lineup. Two of those players are exchange students.
