Before the 2018 season ended, Wyoming Area produced the first girls soccer state tournament win in school history.

The Lady Warriors begin the 2019 season looking for ways to replace many of the players who made that accomplishment and a District 2 Class 2A championship possible.

The graduation losses leave the Lady Warriors with a small roster. They have 10 freshmen and sophomores among the 18 total players.

“We are a small team with experience from last year’s district championship team mixed in with some talented young players,” Wyoming Area coach Nikki Sitkowski said. “We will be competitive, but we need to stay healthy with our small team going into a very tough and demanding schedule.”

The demands come early with Monday’s conference opener at Lake-Lehman, the defending Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 champion and the team Wyoming Area knocked off, 1-0, in the district final.

Senior defenders Abby Yatsko and Carley Yuhas and midfielder Caitlin McDonough return to the Wyoming Area starting lineup.

Christina Kosco, a junior midfielder, also returns.

Olivia Kwiatkowski, a defender/midfielder, and Nicole Donvito, a midfielder, are two more juniors who have some starting experience and saw significant playing time when they were not starters.

Junior goalie Sydney Kruszka also was put to the test for key saves in important games a year ago.

Sophomore Amelia Golden will see action along with promising freshmen Olivia Allen in goal, Sophia Sabatini on defense, Halle Kranson at midfield and Anna Wisnewski as a forward/midfielder.
