Wyoming Area took visiting Wyoming Seminary into overtime before falling in a meeting between the last two unbeaten teams in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 boys soccer Wednesday.

Reggie Grayek completed his hat trick on a goal 50 seconds into overtime to lift Wyoming Seminary to a 3-2 victory.

The Blue Knights finished the week at 5-0. Wyoming Area is alone in second place at 3-1.

Gavin Lahart scored both Wyoming Area goals, including one with 2:32 left in regulation to force the overtime.

Toni Minichello scored goals 1:24 apart late in the first half to erase a deficit and send Wyoming Area on its way to a WVC Division 1 victory at Hazleton Area Thursday.

The Lady Warriors improved to 5-0-1 in the division, behind only defending state champion Wyoming Seminary (6-0).

Lauren Parente added a goal with 3:39 remaining.

Ellie Glatz had seven saves in the win.

Pittston Area remained winless within WVC Division 1 when it lost at Delaware Valley Thursday.

Crestwood 0

Wyoming Area held Crestwood without a shot on goal and without a penalty corner in Tuesday’s WVC Division 1 victory.

The Lady Warriors amassed 31 shots and eight penalty corners.

Kayla Kiwak had a goal and an assist in the first half.

Toni Minichello and Kari Melberger also scored. Bianca Pizano had an assist.

Wilkes-Barre Area 5

Abie Sorokas had a hat trick to lead Wilkes-Barre Area to a road victory in Tuesday’s WVC Division 1 game.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Wyoming Area 3-0

Michael Branley and Jacob Katulka finished first and second in a six-team Wyoming Valley Conference cluster meet to lead Wyoming Area to a 3-0 record on its home course at the Luzerne County Sports Complex Wednesday.

The Warriors defeated Berwick (15-43), Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech (16-45) and Northwest (17-41).

Branley finished the 3.1-mile course in 16:43.

Kyle Emsley was fourth and George Sharkey eighth.

The Warriors are 5-0 overall. Holy Redeemer, through eight meets, and Crestwood, through four, are the only other unbeatens.

Pittston Area 1-2

Pittston Area defeated MMI Prep, 16-39, Wednesday at Kirby Park, but lost to Hazleton Area, 19-40, and Crestwood, 27-32.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Wyoming Area home meet

Wyoming Area did not run a full team, but Aubriana Marranca ran away from the field for a 44-second victory in 19:50 during Wednesday’s six-team WVC cluster meet at the Luzerne County Sports Complex.

Marranca finished in 19:50.

Julie Bonsavage, the only other Lady Warrior to compete, was seventh out of 27 runners.

Pittston Area 1-2

Pittston Area defeated MMI Prep, 15-44, Wednesday at Kirby Park, but lost to Hazleton Area, 20-40, and Crestwood, 26-30.

Sydney Kruszca scored three goals and had an assist for Wyoming Area in Thursday’s WVC Division 2 rout.

Christina Kosco scored twice while Anna Wisnewski and Caitlin McDonough each added a goal and two assists.

Alison Francis scored three goals while Emma Switzer and Megan MacNeely added two each Friday to lead Dallas to the WVC Division 1 victory.

Dallas limited Pittston Area to five shots and did not allow the Lady Patriots a corner kick.

Pittston Area finished the season 5-5, third of four teams in the division. Dallas went 10-0, Tunkhannock 6-4 and Wilkes-Barre Area 2-8.

Wyoming Area suffered two losses in Monday’s WVC tri-match at Wyoming Valley Country Club.

Lake-Lehman shot 161, Hanover Area 175 and Wyoming Area 181.

Marissa Kovaleski had 25 assists and 18 service points Wednesday when Wyoming Area swept, 25-9, 25-10, 25-18 to improve to 2-4 in the WVC.
