Unbeaten Berwick ended Pittston Area’s three-match winning streak in a four-set Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball match Thursday.
The host Lady Bulldogs improved to 10-0 in the WVC and 11-0 overall with the 25-13, 25-23, 21-25, 25-11 victory.
Tiara George had 21 assists, 19 service points and four aces to lead Pittston Area, which is 7-4.
Michalie Mazurkivich added eight digs, eight kills and seven blocks. Jiana Moran had seven points, seven digs and five kills.

Dallas swept visiting Wyoming Area, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20, in a WVC match Thursday.
Selena Forlenza, who had 22 digs, and Hannah Garinger each had six kills in the loss.

George also had 19 assists.

Kayla Kiwak scored in the first half and Kari Melberger connected in the second half Thursday when Wyoming Area won the WVC Division 1 road game to remain undefeated.
The defense posted its fifth straight shutout by limiting Dallas to eight shots and three penalty corners.
The Lady Warriors, who are ranked 14th in Pennsylvania by Max Field Hockey, are 9-0-1 in the division and 12-0-1 overall.

Lauren Parente had a hat trick and an assist to lead Wyoming Area to Tuesday’s WVC home win.
Parente scored twice in the first eight minutes to help the Lady Warriors to a 5-0 halftime lead.
Abington Heights did not manage a shot on goal despite having eight penalty corners.
Kari Melberger scored twice and Alexys Moore had the other goal.
Kayla Kiwak, Bianca Pizano and Toni Menichello also had assists.

Crestwood scored once in each half to defeat host Pittston Area in Tuesday’s WVC Division 1 game.

Wyoming Area won its third straight and remained unbeaten in five games with Thursday’s WVC Division 2 road victory.
The Warriors are second in the division at 6-1-1 and are 9-3-1 overall.

Derek Cunius scored the only Pittston Area goal midway through the first half, on an assist from Kris Vanesko, to bring the Patriots within 2-1.
Pittston Area is 0-7-2 in the division and 1-8-2 overall.

Luke Coolbaugh and Kendall Heck scored unassisted goals in the first half Monday to lead Wyoming Area to a WVC Division 2 victory that clinched a District 2 Class 2A playoff berth for the Warriors.
Coolbaugh scored 28 seconds into the game.
Adam Wisnewski made eight saves in the win.

Pittston Area broke a six-game losing streak with the tie in Tuesday’s WVC Division 1 game against visiting Nanticoke.

Gavin Lahart assisted Kendall Heck on the first goal, then assisted on the last in the Sept. 28 WVC Division 2 win.
The Warriors got goals from four different players and had a total of six players figure into the scoring.
Anthony Nelson and Matt Lewis also scored. Luke Coolbaugh and Dylan Kostak had assists while helping build a four-goal lead before Hanover Area scored on a Cael Davis penalty kick.

Wyoming Area won both its competitions in Wednesday’s cluster meet, beating rival Pittston Area and also getting past Wilkes-Barre Area, 15-41, to improve to 9-1 and remain in second place in the WVC.
Pittston Area lost all three meets. It also fell to Dallas, 19-49, and host Wyoming Seminary, 21-38.
NEPA Invitational
Pittston Area finished 23rd of 32 teams in the Sept. 28 invitational at Bloomsburg University.
Nathan Ridgley completed the 3.1-mile course in 18:58.5 to finish 65th out of 220 runners and lead the Patriots.

Wyoming Area edged rival Pittston Area as part of Wednesday’s five-team WVC meet, hosted by Wyoming Seminary.
The Lady Warriors also defeated Wilkes-Barre Area, 15-50, to reach .500 on the season.
Pittston Area was 2-1 on the day, beating Dallas (24-30) and Wyoming Seminary (19-36).
NEPA Invitational
Pittston Area’s Nicole Zambetti placed 36th in the 197-runner field with a time of 21:49.2 at Bloomsburg University Sept. 28.
The Lady Patriots were 24th of 26 in the team standings.

The blowout loss was the only defeat suffered by the Lady Warriors in their last five games.
