Alex Zubko finished 15th overall and third in his age group Oct. 13 in the 24th annual Steamtown Marathon.

The 25-year-old from Exeter completed the 26.2-mile course from Forest City to downtown Scranton in 2:45:58 to finish third in the men’s 25-29 age group.

Pol Domenech was the overall champion and Riverside High School graduate Heidi Peoples won a record sixth women’s title Sunday.

Domenech, a 24-year-old from Wingate, N.C., completed the 26.2-mile course from Forest City High School to downtown Scranton in 2:24:44 to win by more than a minute.

Peoples, 39, now living in South Abington Township, was 28th overall in 2:55:10.

Zubko was also recognized as the second-highest finisher among local runners, behind only Sam Kuchwara from Dickson City.

Exactly 1,000 runners completed the race.
