WEST PITTSTON – Wyoming Area gained yardage on every running play and every completed pass for six quarters.
The Warriors offense did nothing but move forward in last week’s 56-0 rout of Hanover Area and the same was true in the first half Friday night when Wyoming Area scored all but two of the points in its 45-0 romp over visiting Pittston Area.
In the six quarters immediately after being shut out by nine-time state champion Southern Columbia, Wyoming Area scored 99 points.
The Warriors had 382 yards of total offense by halftime Friday night.
In the six-quarter outburst, they carried 42 times for 456 yards, an average of 10.9 yards per running play. During that same time, Wyoming Area was 10-for-19 for 293 yards passing, averaging 15.4 yards per attempt while throwing for four touchdowns.
Against Hanover Area, every Wyoming Area running play gained at least four yards.
Friday’s first-half carries were all good for at least two yards except for when Dominic DeLuca only needed one yard to score a touchdown.
NOTES
Defense took over in the second half with Wyoming Area limiting Pittston Area to two yards.
Friday night’s win by Wyoming Area was by the largest margin of victory in the 53-year, 55-game series. Pittston Area had the largest previous win at 41-0 in 1973. Wyoming Area’s biggest win had been last season’s 40-0 victory. The highest point total was produced by Pittston Area in a 52-24 win in a 2001 playoff game.
