PECKVILLE – It was difficult for Pittston Area to do much of anything against a Valley View team already with its sights set a week ahead.
It was just that kind of night for the Patriots.
Second-seeded Valley View shut out seventh-seeded Pittston Area, 48-0, Friday in the District 2 Class 4A quarterfinal football game.
The Cougars advanced to face Berwick in a rematch of Valley View’s 35-28 victory in a Week 6 thriller.
Valley View had no trouble dismantling the Patriots, allowing just one first down throughout the first half. The Cougars scored on all six of their first-half possessions and led 42-0 at halftime.
Pittston Area reached the Red Zone twice to no avail. After producing just eight yards through its first three possessions, the Patriots caught a break in the second quarter. Wide receiver Andrew Krawczyk eluded a cornerback and received a P.J. Pisano pass for 49 yards to the Cougars 4.
But Valley View’s defense stopped the Patriots in four plays to regain possession.
The Patriots drove into Valley View territory again in the third quarter, but a fumble erased any chances to put points on the scoreboard.
Corey Coulthard and T.J. Noto scored the first two touchdowns and each added a second-quarter touchdown for Valley View.
Coulthard (9 yards), Noto (1) and Kilmer (2) ran for touchdowns in the first 8:21 for a 21-0 lead.
After a Coulthard 5-yard touchdown run 40 seconds into the second quarter, Janaasah Boone threw a pair of touchdown passes in the final 3:17 of the half.
Boone, who finished 9-for-10 for 154 yards, threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Conserette and an 11-yarder to Noto.
Adam Howanitz closed the scoring on a 1-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.
Pittston Area ends the season with a 4-7 record that included a win over Crestwood, one of the four Class 4A semifinalists still in contention.
