Sarah Holweg came off the bench to score nine points in 14 minutes Thursday to provide an offensive spark for the West Chester University women’s basketball team in its 72-59 victory over Wilmington University in Delaware.
Holweg went 3-for-7 from 3-point range.
The sophomore guard from Wyoming Area has helped the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division team to a 2-1 start in non-conference play.
The nine-point game was two short of a college career-high for Holweg, who has struggled at times offensively, but is still earning consistent playing time with her defense and all-around play.
Holweg played in 29 games as a freshman, making five starts and averaging 11.7 minutes of playing time. She averaged 2.1 points.
This season, Holweg is averaging 4.0 points in 8.3 minutes per game. She is 4-for-11 (36.4 percent) from 3-point range while producing 12 points, a rebound and an assist in 25 minutes over three games.
West Chester won two straight after dropping its opener.
The Golden Rams host Jefferson University Sunday at 1 p.m.
West Chester is projected to finish tied for fourth with Millersville, behind Kutztown, Bloomsburg and Shippensburg in a preseason poll of PSAC coaches.
