Wyoming Area’s Kari Melberger and Alison Lynch contributed to winning effort in a pair of senior all-star games held Nov. 17.

Melberger played in the District 2 Field Hockey Senior Classic at Wyoming Valley West’s Spartan Stadium.

Lynch played in the Wyoming Valley Conference Girls Volleyball Senior All-Star Match at Holy Redeemer.

KINGSTON – Melberger scored a goal while the West was pulling away for a 10-1 rout of the East.

The recent Bucknell University commit scored the second of three third-quarter goals that the West used to stretch a 3-1 halftime lead to 6-1.

Melberger played on the same team as Wyoming Valley West and Wyoming Seminary, which won the state Class 2A and Class A championships a day earlier.

Players from Lake-Lehman, Honesdale, Dallas, Berwick, Lackawanna Trail and Northwest were also part of the West team, which was coached by Berwick head coach Amy Daniel and Lake-Lehman assistant Courtney Thomas.

Pittston Area had three players on the East team. Gabby Para, Kaehler Kivler and Izzy Mancini represented the Lady Patriots.

Holy Redeemer, Hanover Area, Delaware Valley, Nanticoke, Wallenpaupack, Wilkes-Barre Area and Crestwood also had players on the East team, which was coached by Nanticoke’s Kayla Gronkowski.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Lynch had two service points, two digs and a kill for the East, which rallied past the West, 10-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-15.

Crestwood’s Mike Williams coached the team, which also includes his players along with those from host Holy Redeemer, Delaware Valley, Lake-Lehman and Hazleton Area.

Pittston Area’s Emma Coles and Michalie Mazurkivich were part of the West team.

Coles had 15 points, five aces and four kills. Mazurkivich had two kills, two assists and a block.

Sarah Warner from Berwick coached the team.

In addition to players from Berwick and Pittston Area, the West also had players from Dallas and Nanticoke.
