WEST WYOMING — Santa Claus took a break from his work at the North Pole and arrived at the West Wyoming Fire Dept. Hall in time for the annual Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 9.
“It’s a way to give back to the community,” Jayne Hromek, West Wyoming Fire Dept. vice president, said of the annual breakfast. “The proceeds go to the fire department but we do this to give back to the community, have the kids come in see Santa, take their picture, we give them a little gift and Santa walks around and he has breakfast with them.”
Breakfast with Santa at the West Wyoming Fire Dept. started six years ago, according to Hromek. On average, weather permitting, as many as 150 to 200 people attend the breakfast.
The West Wyoming Boy Scout Troop 366 aided with serving food, as well as clearing tables. The breakfast consists of pancakes, scrambled eggs, home fries, sausage, orange juice and coffee.
“The turnout was great and we can’t wait for next year,” Hromek said. “Thanks to the community for their support throughout the year.”
Janelle Wilk, of West Wyoming, took along her son, 5-year-old Sterling Snyder. “We’ve been taking him the last four years,” Wilk said. “His first year, he couldn’t go because he was a preemie.” Sterling’s older sister Riley could not make the event his year.
Wilk, along with Sterling’s grandparents, Carla and Kevin Hyman, were excited for Sterling to see Santa. “We couldn’t tell him until today because he would be nagging us,” Wilk joked.
“I asked him, ‘Who comes once a year?’ and he knew right away where we were going,” Carla Hyman said.
When asked what he wanted Santa to bring him for Christmas, Sterling said, “Tonka Tinys and a blue dump truck and an orange crane.”
What was Sterling’s favorite part of the day? “Just being good.”
