WYOMING — Dave Evans has been selling live Christmas trees at his 260 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, location for what he describes as decades, and like all other retail outlets in the area, he didn’t get the supply he was hoping for as in the past.

Two weeks after Thanksgiving, Evans’ supply of trees, wreaths, swags, cemetery logs and blankets have thinned out, but he still has a variety of trees left.

“This year, I usually have a lot more trees at this point in time, but the size of my inventory I have now is usually where I’m at just days before Christmas,” Evans said. “I feel bad when people come to buy a tree and I don’t have the large selection I normally do.”

According to Evans, 62, his supply of trees varies every year, but this year it landed short of his expectations.

Evans said he has a great base of clientele that he sees from year-to-year, admitting he may not know everyone’s name, but he does recognize repeat customers.

“I get my biggest rush selling trees around Thanksgiving,” Evans said. “Some years I’ll start selling before Thanksgiving and some right after. This year I started a few days before the holiday.”

Evans said he sells trees from 3 to 11 feet tall, stating the Douglas and Fraser Fir trees stay fresh the longest over Spruce trees that dry out faster.

Most of the larger trees have been sold, but there are a variety of medium to smaller trees.

“I ordered enough smaller trees this year,” Evans said. “A lot of people age out and tend to downsize with trees over time. As people get older, they don’t want to bother with the larger ones.”

His handmade Christmas wreaths have been selling briskly, and when we caught up with Evans on the day of the interview, he was busy making additional wreaths to sell.

As Evans was demonstrating his technique for making a wreath, a customer approached him about making a custom wreath, two feet in diameter.

Evans said he would make up any size wreath to order and he will be on site right up to Christmas Eve or until he’s completely sold out.

In addition to selling Christmas greenery, during the spring, summer and fall seasons, Evans operates Outdoor Furniture Landscape Accessories from the same location, selling gazebos, chairs, swings, wells, bridges, picnic tables, benches and lighthouses both in wood and poly resin over the last 15 years.
