HARRISBURG — City of Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo was one of nine government officials across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognized for their dedication to public service by Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf in a ceremony held on Wednesday, April 13.

Lombardo was selected as a winner for Career Recognition for the 2022 Governor’s Awards for Local Government Excellence at The State Museum of Pennsylvania during the morning ceremony along with seven other individuals, eleven communities, and two organizations from across the commonwealth were recognized for excellent service as part of the 26th Annual Governor’s Awards.

Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Acting Secretary Neil Weaver, on behalf of Governor Tom Wolf, recognized municipalities and local government officials for their dedication and commitment to strengthen their communities and better serve their residents.

“It’s an honor to recognize all of these local officials, governments and organizations for their achievements over the past year,” Acting Secretary Weaver said. “More than any other level of government, local government has the greatest impact on our day-to-day lives. The projects and individuals recognized today help continue to make Pennsylvania the best place in the world to live, work and play.”

Pennsylvania Municipal League (PML) nominated Lombardo for the 2022 award, where he serves as First Vice President.

“It’s great to be recognized amongst your peers,” Lombardo said. “It was really nice day and to be at the ceremony with the other recipients of the awards across the state and to be able to continue to network is invaluable to the City of Pittston. It’s truly an honor to be recognized by the governor and the state. It was a great day for the City of Pittston and that’s the most important thing for me.”

Gov. Wolf was unable to attend but did a video remote call into the ceremony.
